David Horowitz Bio

David Horowitz is a towering figure among American conservative writers and activists. The New York Times bestselling author of dozens of books including political commentaries, memoirs, and biographies (co-written with late author Peter Collier) of four prominent 20th-century American families, he is also the founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center committed to defending our liberties from enemies both internal and external.

Originally a “red-diaper baby” born to committed Communist parents in New York City, Horowitz began his political activism promoting far-Left causes and co-editing the New Left magazine Ramparts – even working closely with Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party. The murder of a friend, for which Horowitz believed the Panthers to be responsible, set him on the path of an ideological conversion to conservatism explored in a number of books, most notably his 1996 memoir Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey, one of the most important political biographies ever written.

Horowitz and Collier, who had a similar political epiphany, then founded Heterodoxy, a monthly magazine exposing political correctness in higher education, and went on to establish the David Horowitz Freedom Center with its flagship website FrontPage Magazine for political commentary, an online encyclopedia of the American Left called Discover the Networks, and the Jihad Watch website devoted to reporting on Islamic extremism.

Horowitz has also been a tireless fighter for academic freedom, founding the Students for Academic Freedom and publishing an Academic Bill of Rights to eliminate political bias in university classrooms.

He has spoken at over 300 colleges and universities and appeared on countless media outlets including Nightline, Crossfire, Today, Hannity & Colmes, The O’Reilly Factor, Glenn Beck, Good Morning America, C-SPAN, CNBC, the Fox News Channel and MSNBC.

Among Horowitz’s most notable books are Destructive Generation: Second Thoughts About the 60s, Left Illusion: An Intellectual Odyssey, Radical Son, Uncivil Wars: The Controversy Over Reparations for Slavery, Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left, Radicals: Portraits of a Destructive Passion, The Shadow Party: How George Soros, Hillary Clinton, And Sixties Radicals Seized Control of the Democratic Party, and The Black Book of the American Left, a 9-volume series of his collected conservative writings over the last 30 years. His recent bestsellers such as Final Battle, The Enemy Within, and The Radical Mind demonstrate that David Horowitz continues to be a dynamic intellectual powerhouse in the defense of conservatism and American freedom.
